La Maison

H i r a e t h was the starting point. A word for a longing that cannot be resolved—an ache for a home, a place, a time, or a state of being that may no longer exist, or may never have existed at all. The Constantinople of Ingres and Delacroix, perhaps.

Suspended between Orient and Occident, there was a time when life unfolded between the Bosphorus's waterfront yalıs and the caïques that drifted between them. Kaftans rustled beneath colourful Ottoman parasols. Embroidered handkerchiefs and a language of fans conveyed affection, indifference and desire. The gift of a pepper or a bowl of yoghurt meant something more. Symbols travelled here alongside spices, stories and silks. Beauty and meaning were woven into everyday life.

Today, home is not fixed, but felt. Something carried, assembled, remembered. Cushions, throws, curtains, objects and talismans become the soft bricks with which we build it.

Working with artisans from the Black Sea, the Grand Bazaar and beyond, we draw upon centuries-old craft traditions: metal hand-embroidery in genuine copper, silver and gold thread, hand-loomed textiles, leatherwork and ornament. Some objects are made by us. Others are discovered, collected and brought back from hidden workshops and forgotten ateliers. The last masters of their craft. Men and women who possess knowledge that may disappear with their generation. Addresses passed quietly from one person to another, never advertised, never found online.

Every collection, created or curated, begins with a story.

Anatolian kilims. Talismanic shirts. Heraldic beasts. The Ogham tree alphabet. Protective symbols carried across generations and geographies, reimagined through the crafts of the Ottoman world.

The Silk Road. The Grand Bazaar. The turquoise tiles of Rüstem Pasha.

These are contemporary turqueries: objects translated for modern life. Like the talismanic shirts once worn by sultans, they are made to be lived with, kept and gifted.

Anchors. Companions.

A home, wherever you may be.

The Maison presented its first collection during Salone del Mobile, Milan, in 2025.
