From Anatolian kilim symbols to the Irish tree alphabet, from mediaeval heraldry with its lions, griffins and leopards to centuries of folklore, our cushion collection gathers together stories that have travelled across continents and through time.
Each piece is hand-embroidered by artisans using ancient Ottoman metal embroidery descended from Egypt's Assuit tradition, combined with a technique developed exclusively by Bolka. Silver, brass and gold-coloured threads shimmer across linen, wool, silk taffeta and velvet, translating ancient symbols into quiet geometry, a form of sacred alchemy.
To let these embroideries breathe, they are paired with handwoven Ikat fabrics from distant looms, where blurred pigments and painterly rhythms soften the precision and geometric glimmer of the needle.
A pastel silk cushion in the sugared hues of loukoum belongs as naturally in a whitewashed house on a Greek island as beneath the jacarandas of Careyes. Richly embroidered velvet or wool cushions bearing heraldic beasts and ancient trees find their place in snow-draped homes. Each is conceived as a contemporary talisman, its story stitched in metal thread, ready to gather the stories still to come.
